New Practitioner to MWC
We are excited to welcome our New Practitoner to the MWC Team!
Meet Katelyn:
I have been licensed and practicing massage in Rhode Island since 2019 and have worked at the same busy wellness clinic in the West End of Providence, RI, since 2020.
I grew up and currently live in southeastern Massachusetts, and I recently obtained my license to practice massage in my home state. I am very excited to offer therapeutic massage closer to where I call home.
Massage is a gratifying work for me; I enjoy learning about the body, and it is my passion.
I am deeply passionate about this work and enjoy helping clients find relief from chronic and acute muscle pain and tension, as well as providing a brief respite from life’s daily stress.
I encourage my clients to become more in tune with their bodies, promoting a sense of self-awareness that lasts beyond the massage table.
I work with firm pressure with a gentle approach to help ease muscular tension and pain, while offering a restorative, relaxing, and healing experience.
I don’t believe that deep tissue massage is supposed to hurt; I work in ways that offer deep pressure while also incorporating elements of relaxation. It is my goal to help work through knots and stuck muscular tissue to bring in fresh blood flow, while also helping to activate the parasympathetic nervous system—this is where all that lovely self-healing magic happens.
I enjoy blending deep tissue and relaxation techniques, as well as myofascial work and trigger point therapy.
I am trained in myofascial cupping and prenatal massage, and I also recently completed an Advanced Corrective Bodywork continuing education course with Rob Martin of Rolf Bodyworks (Sterling, CT).
I enjoy learning about structural bodywork because I consider the body as a whole and aim to help my clients identify the root causes of their muscular pain.

Slient Retreats - What are the benefits?
Mom, mommy mommy, mum, mum, mum, maaaa, Shirley, look at me, listen! I hear these names and expressions on a daily basis, numerous times a day. You may be able to relate. How about the phone calls, the spam calls(despite the blocking of spam calls, they still manage to sneak through), the text messages even when you’re on do not disturb you still get the nudge to check your phone. We’ve all succumbed to the habit of “pick up the smart phone”. After 3 PM through to the evening, I had picked up my phone 124 times. As you may or may not know, your phone will carry statistics. And if you don’t know, especially iPhone users, you can go into your settings, select screen time, and then select see all activity (you can connect your other devices as well). There was one instance where I had picked up my phone over 250 times in a day. To be fair I use my phone for practical things connecting with my family, patients, students, friends, google calendar, work, socials etc. believe me, I get it. But the question for everyone regardless of raising children or nurturing yourself. Can you find a time to have extended silence such as a silent retreat? What do you gain when you calm the mind? This beyond a yoga class. Let’s explore some of the benefits.
What happens during a silent retreat?
The setting for a silent retreat is typically a place with a slow, serene environment with access to nature. You don’t just sit in, there is walking meditation in the outdoors, eyes opened/closed meditation , seated meditation, laying meditation. One sided sharing or a one on one session with the teacher. Silent retreats vary from encouraging journaling, writing, yin yoga(some offer varied forms of yoga), allowing reading, listening to podcasts to completely silent meditation 8-10 hour daily based retreats such as Vipassana that last 10 days. Three healthy and often organic meals are provided daily.
A silent retreat is a time for digital detox. You don’t have access to your phone. No messages or notifications as a distraction. Are you able to be present with your thoughts and emotions. For some that prove to be “scary”. Some need constant chatter because it keeps them from having to face the reality of their pain or what need to actually need to get done. But if you allow yourself that time you’re able to experience improved mental clarity, I insight, focus, concentration and deepened reflection. With the calming of the monkey mind (restless mind) and make friends with it you can find wisdom. You get to know your mind through silence.
You may be a quiet person, you may be a talkative person or somewhere in between. No matter your personality, relationship, status, or lifestyle, everyone has something to gain from choosing to attend a silent retreat that extend beyond reducing stress. You’re invited to come home to yourself.

A group of south coast's finest yoga teachers will be teaching outside a lovely variety of accessible yoga classes that are joyous, heart-felt, and therapeutic.
